Today we are saying goodbye to a dear friend and founder of Focus Ireland, Sister Stan. I am so grateful and proud that I could call her a friend, she was truly the most inspiring person I have ever known.
I first met Stan 10 years ago when I started with Focus, working in the Coffeeshop in Eustace street, this is where Stan started Focus Ireland 40 years ago. Stan would come in and everyone was so drawn to her, she had natural kindness and warmth, and would give her full attention to anyone that wanted to talk.
Her Ethos of 'Never give a broken man a broken cup,' is one that has underpinned the values of dignity and empowerment that make Focus Ireland the special place that it is.
I am going to her funeral today, and while I am sad to say goodbye, I am in awe of the legacy she leaves behind, I can only hope that we do her proud by continuing this on through our work in Focus Ireland.
Stan loved the Santa drive, and one Christmas day when we opened up a room in coffee shop for some of the families in hotels, Stan was up with us and getting involved, so I am dedicating this years Santa Drive to her memory.
I am forever grateful for everything she has done with her life.
I will be in touch soon, be kind to yourselves,
Rach x
